If you are an owner of any multifamily buildings with 3 or more units, the state of California now requires periodic inspections on these buildings (Balcony Inspection Law), due to an unfortunate collapsed balcony incident that claimed 6 lives in 2015.
Multifamily unit owners only have until January 1, 2025 to complete the first inspection.
These inspections can only be performed by a licensed architect, civil or structural engineer, or a licensed architect. The report and the repair work cannot be done by the same party.
